my readings.

I was randomly looking online for books to read and looking them up on my school’s library database.
One of the books that I happened to find interesting was Peony in Love by Lisa See.
I was going to read this book right before I went to bed on a Saturday night while my roommate was out partying. But must to my surprise I couldn’t put the book down.
It was such an amazing book regarding love, just eternal love.
Even though the book is set in 17th century China, I believe there are many things that can be put to modern days.
Spoilers…

When Peony meets her match in the garden I knew it was her fiance, but just how do you tell the character of the book? That is what compelled me to continue to read the book. The question of what is going to happen to this couple after Peony dies of starvation? Even through death they end up together and that got to me thinking about love. How does love transpire through death? How do people continue to love even after the love of their life has died? Being so young, I think this book has opened my eyes to just how great love can be. How wonderful eternal love can be. How wonderful eternal love can be.

When people are alive, they love. When they die, they keep loving. If love ends when a person dies, that is not real love.
- Peony in Love p89

That quote made me think. Peony being 16 wrote this about love. And how much truer can it be? Love is something that everyone wants to be eternal, but in today’s society is is less that that. Often times much less. The love that Peony experienced in the book with Ren is the type of love that I would desire. What I want in my lifetime, how long it might be. The type of love that when I die I will know I will continue to be loved. Will continue to be remembered. Will continue to be cherished.
